Mohare Danda Community Trek
Five days on Nepal's flagship community eco-lodge trail — Poon Hill's panorama, none of Poon Hill's queue.
Mohare Danda is the best-run community trek in the Annapurnas. Every lodge on the route is owned and staffed by the Magar villages it sits in, profits fund the local schools and health post, and the whole thing is lit by micro-hydro and solar. It climbs from Galeshwor on the Kali Gandaki through Bans Kharka and Nangi — a village famous for building its own computer network out of relay towers — to a ridge at 3,300 m that looks across at Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Nilgiri. The view is the equal of Poon Hill's and you will likely be one of six people watching it. Effort is real but never technical: steady hill days, good food, warm rooms.
