Khumai Danda Trek

A four-day ridge on the Mardi side that almost nobody walks, climbing to Korchon Danda at 3,682 m.

Khumai Danda Trek — drop a photo

Khumai Danda is the newest trail we run and still the emptiest. It climbs the ridge west of the Mardi Himal route from the Gurung village of Lwang, through organic tea gardens and dense rhododendron, onto an open grass shoulder and then up to Korchon Danda at 3,682 m — where Machhapuchhre is close enough to feel rude. Because the route only opened properly in the last few years the lodges are small, family-run and few, which is part of the appeal and also why we cap group sizes. The effort is similar to Mardi Himal but the days are shorter and the crowds are non-existent.

Why you'll love it

  • Korchon Danda at 3,682 m — the ridge's true high point, above Khumai
  • Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South & Hiunchuli at close range
  • Lwang's organic tea gardens on the way up
  • A trail still quiet enough that you may have the ridge to yourself

Day by day

An hour and a half up the Mardi Khola to Lwang and its tea gardens, then a steep forest climb to the first lodge on the ridge.
